Mliswa Denounces Chamisa’s Denial Visit To Chikurubi

Norton Legislator Temba Mliswa has denounced the blocking of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change Leader Nelson Chamisa to meet with Job Sikhala, Godfrey Sithole and the Nyatsime 13 at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Mliswa condemned the move to obstruct visitors at Prisons and even went on to say during Smith era visitors were not obstructed.

“The blocking of Nelson Chamisa from meeting with Sikhala and others is most unfortunate. We do not expect such in a liberated country. Our own liberation fighters when imprisoned by the Rhodesians were allowed visitors. Why do we have to go so low? We cannot be worse than Rhodesia,” said Mlliswa.

This is the second time Chamisa has been denied access to meet with the Nyatsime 13, Sikhala and Sithole, during his first visit in June Chamisa was told that he was supposed to be cleared by the Commissioner General since he is a high-profile political figure.

Last week Chamisa’s lawyers, Shava Law Chambers received a letter that stated that Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) had grant the CCC leader permission to visit his party legislators and activists but with some restrictions.

“Please be advised that authority has been granted for your client Mr Nelson Chamisa to visit members of his political party incarcerated in our prisons,” ZPCS said.

“The approval for your client Mr Nelson Chamisa was given with some restrictions. He is required to notify the officer in charge of his intended visit in advance and the specific times.

However, upon arrival today Chamisa was denied access see the incarcerated Nyatsime victims, Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole.

“We had to come to visit Honourable Members of the Parliament ,Hon Job Sikhala and Hon Godfrey Sithole but it is disheartening that after we were made to wait 2-3 hours we were then told to enter , Upon entering we were invited to the office of the Officer in Charge of the Prisons who indicated to us it is unfortunate that we cannot see Hon Sikhala and the other Nyatsime Colleagues because Minister of Justice has instructed that we cannot see them, “ says Chamisa.

Early this month Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora was granted permission to meet with Sikhala but the Zengeza West and Chitungwiza North Legislators denied to meet with Mwonzora.
