CCC Decries Selective Application Of The Law

The Citizens Coalition for Change has decried the selective application of the law in the country.

Speaking during a press briefing in Harare, the CCC National Spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere said that the law had been weaponised against the opposition and dissenting voices.

“The persecution of Honorable Job Sikhala and Honorable Godfrey Sithole and the entire Nyatsime group is certainly a big sign of the selective application of the law,the weaponisation of the bail procedure and the abuse of state institutions to persecute opponents,”she said.

Mahere said that the government was persecuting opposition members for no reason at a time when the real criminals were being arrested in a catch and release scenario.

“We saw when ZANU PF members were arrested,Wadyajena, with less than 24 hours,he was released on bail, not withstanding clear evidence implicating him.

We saw similar events taking place.Mike Chimombe and there is a host of others. We all saw how Henrietta Rushwaya’s case was handled, someone who was caught red handed but right now walks the streets free, she added.

Job Sikhala and Godfey Dube have been wallowing in prison for over 4 months together with other Nyatsime activists.

They are jointly charged with inciting violence following the violence that unravelled in the Nyatsime area in the wake of Moreblessing Ali’s brutal killing.

The courts have continued to deny them bail, citing that they were a flight risk and were likely to commit similar offences if released on bail
