Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Makomborero Haruzivishe who once spent ten months of a ludicrous 14 month sentence for blowing a whistle, has finally been acquitted.

CCC spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere reacted to the triumph saying the court had vindicated them on their position that Haruzivishe was innocent.

“We knew Makomborero Haruzivishe was innocent all along. His wrongful conviction which we complained about at the time has now been set aside.

“How does he recover the lost time lost spent in unlawful detention? The same thing happened to Last Maengehama and Tungamirai Madzokere and is happening to Job [Sikhala] and the Nyatsime16. Stop the persecution,” she said.

Makomborero Haruzivise was granted bail this year ten months into his 14 months prison sentence for merely blowing a whistle in Harare.

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Mako as he is affectionately known has now been acquitted for blowing the famous Whistle.

Haruzivishe won his appeal yesterday against both conviction and sentence at the High Court for blowing this whistle and allegedly inciting unrest.

Mako’s lawyers Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) confirmed the Development.

“We have ended the persecution of pro-democracy campaigner MakomboreroH by obtaining a High Court order quashing and setting aside his conviction and sentence for allegedly “blowing a whistle during a protest as he has been found not guilty and acquitted by Justice Zhou and Justice Chikowero.”

The ZLHR Lawyers said he was sentenced to an effective 14 months imprisonment last year for allegedly inciting public violence and resisting lawful arrest.

Mako was represented by Kossam Ncube and Obey Shava.
