Citizens’ Coalition for Change President Nelson Chamisa has alleged that Minister of Local Government July Moyo incited the Gokwe violence that left several CCC party supporters and four journalists injured.
Addressing the media on Friday, Chamisa said armed Zanu PF thugs chased after his convoy.
“Just yesterday they did a fun thing in Gokwe, they chased after our convoy and we had to find ways of blocking them through our security teams.
“They had guns AK47’s and of course they almost had 21 vehicles and I understand that July Moyo was also part of that delegation. What shocks me is that we have government ministers behaving like little thugs.
“They literally incite violence, sponsor violence and coordinate violence, it is very unfortunate what we want is to insist on peace,” he said.
CCC leader also condemned Zanu PF for conducting counter meeting with their CCC rallies.
“What shocks me is wherever I go, there is always a counter program by Zanu PF exactly at the venue where we will be holding our meetings.
“Yesterday in Gokwe I was shocked that July Moyo, McKenzie Ncube and Larry Mavhima were literally conducting a counter program not elsewhere but where we were holding our meeting and they impose themselves on the police making the lives of the police difficult.”
“It is very unfortunate because it has been the case elsewhere even in Masvingo,” he said.
Chamisa further advocated for a free and fair and he also urged government to entrench the Southern African Development Community (SADC), African Nations (AN) protocols, values and principles of elections that are supposed to be embarked on.
