Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has demanded justice for the August 1 Victims, as today marks 4 years without implementing the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry recommendations.

CCC Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere took a tweet to demand justice for August 1 victims.

“Today marks 4 years since the August 1 shootings. 6 citizens were murdered in cold blood by the soldiers while more than 60 were badly injured in a gruesome episode of post-election violence following the dispute 2018 harmonised elections. We demand justice.

“The tragedy of the # 1 August 2018 shooting is that no one responsible for the bloodshed has been held to account for these brutal killings. None of the recommendations made by the #MotlantheCommission have been implemented. We demand justice. Remembering1August,” she said.

United States of America Embassy also demanded for the implementation of the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry recommendations.

On their Twitter page US Embassy advocated for Zimbabwe government to implement the Commission of Inquiry recommendations.

“Today marks four years since security forces killed civilians for exercising their constitutional right to protest. When will Zimbabwe implement #MotlantheCommission recommendations and hold those responsible to account?

However, Permanent Secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana responded to US Embassy saying, “The Motlanthe Commission did not make a finding that the Security Forces killed civilians. That’s your own position which has no basis in facts.”

Former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe led a commission of inquiry into the killing of six people by the army on August 1st in 2018 after protests broke out over alleged delays in the release of presidential election results.
