0

Norton legislator Themba Mliswa has called on the government not to proceed with the private voluntary organization bill which he said had  disastrous consequences for people .

Speaking in contribution to the bill,Mliswa said that the government would be commiting an act of terrorism against its own people.

“The citizens of Bulawayo are saying by passing this Bill, the government will be doing an act of terrorism against its citizens because right now they have nothing; they have no food, they cannot send their children to school and this is the role that the NGOs and the PVOs are playing in the country.

I implore Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi that this Bill must not see the light of the day, if he cares about citizens.”he said.

Should it be adopted, the amended law would provide the government with wide powers to interfere in civil society organizations’ governance and activities.

The government has been conducting hearings acr4oss the country as it seeks to have the bill passed through parliament.

However experts have warned against  such a move which they say is aimed at clipping the wings of non governmental organizations who are viewed by the government as agents of regime change.
