Transport minister Felix Mhona has praised new Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA) board led by Dr George Manyaya for a sterling transparent direction they are embarking on at ZINARA.

Mhona said Zinara had moved in to address legacy issues where thousands of dollars were looted in shady deals.

Zinara headquarters was no longer a safe haven for public funds and as had at least 7 chief executive officers since inception with various negative publicity being reported.

“At Zinara, corruption was the order of the day, but we have since stopped that. We are happy with the accountability and transparency that is being shown by the board since its appointment and we hope we continue with this trajectory,” Mhona said.

‘Zinara only releases funds when foreign heads are coming’ but now they are on the same page since the thrust of the new board and Management.

During the begging of the year, Zinara promised to be accountable and transparent with public funds and committed to disburse 17billion dollars in 2022 on road disbursements.

True to its word during a stakeholder roads tour on monday , the Authority advised the nation that they had already disbursed 5billion dollars to the 93 road authorities during the first quarter of 2022 and highlighted to whom. speaking during the tour the Chairman said ” we are here to assess the progress of the disbursements we made during the first quarter. We disbursed 5billion dollars and provided ten percent to the road authorities to commence works. We first conducted training workshops in conjuction with the procurement regulatory authority of Zimbabwe to ensure that all of them are aligned to the vision and we prevent the yesteryear commissions or ommissions” he said
