Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Madzibaba Veshanduko real name Godfrey Chidawo Karembera has said filthy rich business man Sakunda Holdings owner Kudakwashe Tagwirei sponsored the Harare East campaign because he wanted to get rid of CCC vice President Tendai Biti from Parliament.
Madzibaba Veshanduko was narrating his ordeal to TechMag.TV when he said Tagwirei financed Mavis Gumbo’s campaign because he wanted the CCC Vice President out of the picture at all costs as he poked holes into his multi-million dollar deals with government.
The former Minister of Finance was a thorn in the flesh for Kudakwashe Tagwirei as Biti was always leaving malcontent and corrupt elements with egg on their face, also facing jail time with an independent judiciary and not State captured government.
Gumbo was Tagwirei’s puppet as Zimbabwe’s most prolific State capturer was hiding behind the skirts of Minister Joram Gumbo’s daughter to help her win so that Biti does not come back to Parliament.
According to Madzibaba Veshanduko, Tagwirei knew that Biti’s return to Parliament would mean he will have so many questions to answer on the Treasury Bill scandal.
Speaking to TechMag TV Editor in Chief Toneo Rutsito, Madzibaba told viewers that Harare East was the most sponsored constituency compared to other constituencies.
“Mavis kaa mari yanga iripo mukatarisa maconstituency ese akaitwa maby election kwakaiswa mari neZanu PF, ndiyoyi Harare East sei ndadaro?. Kwakaiswa mari zvibhorani zvichicherwa vachitadza kuisa zvibhorani kumamisha vakuisa muHarare muno munoda matepi zvaiiswa nekuti kwakapombewa mari. Kune vamwe veZanu PF vaitotaura kuti vari kubatsirwa neuya anonzi Tagwirei nekuti aitya kuti Biti akadzoka muparamende nyaya dzake dzatanga, anobatwa nemudumbu, ndakamuti hokoyo Tagwirei.” said Madzibaba in vernacular meaning,
“Zanu PF sponsored Mavis Gumbo’s Harare East constituency like no other constituencies that were running the 26 March 2022 by elections, they pumped so much money to drill boreholes in the constituency instead of drilling those borehole in the rural ares, in the capital city of Harare we do not expect to see people using boreholes rather they must provide tap water for the residents. They used a lot of money to campaign for Gumbo, we were told by some Zanu PF members that Tagwirei was the one who sponsored the Harare East campaign reason being he did not want Biti to return to Parliament because of his public funds scandal, i am sure he is worried right now because Biti won and he is back in Parliament but i warned Tagwirei before.” said Madzibaba.
Sakunda Holdings owner, Kudakwashe Tagwirei and former Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee Chairperson Tendai Biti have an adversarial relationship as Tagwirei gets grilled by Biti’s Committee on the allegations of misusing public funds.
Before his recall from the National Assembly Biti chaired Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee which oversees government expenditure patterns. He has previously hauled Tagwirei over the coals for what the opposition leader argues are deals that lack transparency including a murky US$1 billion dollar treasury bills deal.
However, last month Tagwirei’s Sakunda Holdings, broken its silence over the controversy surrounding Treasury Bills it was given to finance the specialised maize production programme saying everything was done according to book.
The businessman argued that the programme had been granted special national project status by cabinet as legally required for all strategic national projects, hence there was nothing dodgy or illegal.
