Wrong Strategy Like Texting Behind My Heavy Defeat – Mwonzora
The man responsible for disintergrating the late icon’s Morgan Richard Tsvangirayi and Gibson Sibanda founded Movement for Democratic Change, Mdc A and MDC-T leader Senator Douglas Mwonzora has blamed his election defeat on poor text messaging.
Addressing his first press conference at the Morgan Richard Tsvangirayi House since the heaviest defeat of any political opponent in the history of Zimbabwean politics, Senator Mwonzora said
“We are also going to look at other things like messaging, the particular strategy we adopted in this election which is different from the strategy we have used traditionally. We got our strategy wrong.”
This also comes against the backdrop of some parties in the MDC Alliance which attributed the loss to his approach.
In a question asked by Sofia Mapuranga concerning a letter that suspended the embattled Mdc leader following the embarrassing loss, Mdc T leader Mwonzora brushed aside the letter saying the purpoted person, “Is out of the country and it was most likely not them that wrote the letter of suspension and he remains Mdc T leader.”
In the letter, Zimbabwe People First Secretary-General, Marakia Bomani stated that Mwonzora made unilateral decisions that in the end cost the alliance.
Adamant on his narrative that he is still the people’s choice despite the loss, Mwonzora said “The party will go back to the drawing board and re-strategise.
“He said they got their strategy wrong, adding:
“Lionel Messi misses a penalty. Maradona misses a penalty. So strategists can get strategies wrong as well.'”
When quizzed by TechMagTV Editor in Chief Toneo on whether the poor performance meant he will consider joining his erstwhile former boss CCC leader President Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the Opposition MDC-T leader, also said, ” I am open to the idea of working with the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa’ adding that the condition is “Their attitude towards us.”
Senator Mwonzora added, “The MDC has always said that it is prepared to work with all progressive forces for the total liberation of our people, for the total democratisation of Zimbabwe.”
“Regarding specifically working with Advocate Chamisa and his team, a lot depends of course on them and their attitude towards us.”
Mwonzora held the presser in the aftermath of the weekend’s 26 March 2022 by-elections in which the party failed to record a single win.
There were 28 National House of Assembly and 121 local government seats up for grabs.
