The Zimbabwe Republic Police barred Citizens Coalition for Change Secretary General Charlton Hwende from the addressing the media following a meeting with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), Tuesday.
Hwende was in the company of prominent lawyer Alec Muchadehama and other electoral team at the meeting and wanted to address journalists outside ZEC offices.
Zimbabwe will conduct by-election seen as a dress-rehearsal for next year’s general elections next year this Saturday.
In his brief address to journalists before being stopped by police, Hwende said:“We have just finished the meeting with ZEC we have three request the first one centered at our request for us to get voters role which they have refused to confirm whether we have the final voters role for Saturday, they said we do not have the voters role for Saturday so we are going to approach the courts now.”
Officers manning the ZEC offices swooped on the CCC official and stopped him.
“Let’s move from here and address people in your cars or address them somewhere else, ” said the Officers.
The Police officers did not give any reason for baring Hwende from addressing journalists outside the ZEC premises.
This is not the first time ZRP has restricted CCC from address the people and the media, they have once banned the CCC Gokwe rally, Marondera Rally, Masvingo Rally and Binga Rally, some of the rallies were later given the green light after the intervention of the Courts.
