“We are doing the genomic sequencing, and we have already identified that we now have it (Omicron) in this country and, therefore, must remain vigilant,”he said.

The discovery of the Omicron variant in Botswana led to the suspension of flights from six SADC countries including Zimbabwe by the US and Europe and the VP called on everyone to get vaccinated and observe the Covid-19 guidelines to prevent loss of life.

“We want everyone to be safe so let’s be vaccinated and then let’s follow the protocols.

” We don’t want to end up putting extra measures but if we follow these measures, I think every one of us will be safe and we will conquer this enemy,”he added.

The government recently tightened Covid restrictions inorder to slow down the spread of the Omicron Variant.
