The Zimbabwean government has managed to bring down the passport back log but not without an exorbitant cost for passport seekers.
The long wait for a Zimbabwean passport is way too long that despite
Zimbabwe bringing down its passport backlog from 400,000 last August to about 185,000, accessing the travel documents quickly is a prohibitively expensive process for most.
An anonymous passport seeker is dejected as he steps onto the dusty red soil outside the Makombe building in Harare, Zimbabwe.
“They told me to come and do the application to get my passport on December 15 because they wanted to clear a backlog,” The anonymous person tells TechMagTV. “I was hoping to get an emergency 24-hour passport … Glory to God that I didn’t have immediate travel plans.”
To get it I was asked to folk out and part away with my hard earned cash of $USD 500.
“This is the cost many are not willing to pay as it’s not an official receipt given deal but the reality on the ground.”
