Vulnerable youths exposed by the biting economic crunch in Zimbabwe have turned to illegal drugs and alcohol, in turn exposing them to HIV and AIDS as they are often not in control of their right state of the mind.
Some youths, both boys and girls at most end up engaging in unprotected sex, as they find the better part of their day under the influence of a highly intoxicating substance, caring less about the health and welfare.
The remarks were made during an HIV workshop organized by National Aids Council NAC in Chinhoyi as various youths made their testimonies, presenting to a panel of top media players.
The workshop was educating various top media editors in Zimbabwe on the pandemic and how best the media must report and more importantly giving them a better understanding of the HIV and AIDS environment for their newsroom reporting.
One of the youths who made a heart felt testimony said that he was also once into Guka a chemical extracted from light bulb filament and old tv screens.
This highly concentrated powder takes them out for days, while it does not make them sleep, it keeps them awake and alive but in a stopper condition which literally blocks all the body feelings, pain or temperature.
Such youths when they indulge into sexual activities, will not even think about protecting themselves from HIV or AIDS while others who contemplate prostitution do not even think of any line of defense during their course of sexual work.
