MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa and his convoy have been attacked again during their tour of Manicaland today.
According to the MDC Deputy Spokesman Ostallos Siziba, their party president survived yet another well calculated assassination attempt on the life of their president .
”The President survived another assassinaion attempt here in Manicaland.A ZANU PF mob tried to block his path with a diagonally parked Mitsubishi with its bonnet open,”Siziba said
Political tensions are rising ahead of the 2023 general elections and the attack comes barely a fortnight after Chamisa’s convoy was attacked in Masvingo by a ZANU PF mob, who pelted his convoy, with stones, damaging his vehicle and injuring his aides in the process.
President Chamisa is currently on a Citizens and community interface tour of Manicaland to lay the ground work ahead of the decisive general elections in two years time.
Meanwhile MDC Alliance Deputy President has raised alarm over the continued attacks on the opposition and called for the SADC to urgently intervene reign in the ”regime of impunity”.
Speaking during a press conference,Biti said that the ruling ZANU PF was taking the country on a dangerous path by attempting to assassinate party leader Nelson Chamisa and that the situation required external intervention.
”I want to call upon on the international community, in particular SADC,to say the situation in Zimbabwe is burning, that a soft landing needs to be created and the only thing that will create a soft landing is genuine dialogue by the two principal organisation that is ZANU PF and MDC Alliance and by the two principal actors in this country,Mr Mnangagwa and Advocate Chamisa,” Biti said
