The Confederation Of African Football has banned the National Sports Stadium from hosting international matches until the sports facility meets the required standards.
ZIFA confirmed the development in a statement to the media.
“The Confederation OF African Football has granted Zimbabwe’s National Sports Stadium a one match approval to host senior teams’ international matches.
Thereafter, the stadium will be automatically barred from hosting senior team’s international matches and other CAF Men’s Internet Club Competitions until outstanding issues noted in previous inspection reports have been addressed,”read the statement by ZIFA.
The ban comes after CAF had sent it’s representative to Zimbabwe to conduct an inspection at the National Sports Stadium.
CAF stadium inspector, Tshegofatso Moiloa was assigned to assess the suitability of the giant stadium to host international football competitions.
The National Sports stadium was initially banned from hosting senior teams’ matches in 2020 but was provisionally cleared allowing the Warriors to host Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
However the provisional clearance expires next month.
CAF wants the stadia facilities in the country to meet set standards, which include installation of bucket seats and electronic turnstiles in order to host international football matches.
Earlier this year,CAF fined the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) US$2 000 for lack of technical facilities at the National Sports Stadium and the B Arena needs to be renovated in line with CAF training field infrastructure requirements.
