The government has allowed all licensed bars to reopen after more than 18months but the country remains on level 2 lockdown.
Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa made the announcent during a post-cabinet briefing on Tuesday adding that the bars would be open to vaccinated clients only.
“Cabinet notes, with concern, that the continued closure of licensed bars and nightclubs has caused not only a loss of income and unemployment but also resulted in the mushrooming of illegal outlets.”
“Cabinet therefore directed that all licensed bars be opened to fully vaccinated clients.
Bar owners are also required to ensure that the World Health Organization and national protocols and guidelines are enforced, and would have their licenses withdrawn if they fail to do so and the bares are also required to adhere to curfew hours,Mutsvangwa said
The decision to reopen bars has been welcomed by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers who had approached Government to consider allowing places that sell alcohol like bars and nightclubs to reopen, as the retail sector has taken a significant knock from loss of liquor sales last year
