GUKURAHUNDI recommendations and the convened meeting by the President of Zimbabwe, HE, ED Mnangagwa.

The responses by the Shona Prince and The African Democrats (T.A.D).

Press Releases (22/08/21)

Since 2019, T.A.D has been following, with keen interest, the initiatives taken by the Zimbabwean government under HE ED Mnangagwa on how best to resolve the Gukurahundi matter.

We hereby respond to the latest installation of recommendations as tabled by the National Council of Chiefs and the presidency.

T.A.D would like to categorically state that Shona is not a single tribe neither is it one language but a collective of a dozen tribes whose collective kingdoms were invaded, vandalised, wrecked and ransacked that resulted in their land and livestock stolen and women raped and others forced into marriages.

The Shona / Munhumutapa Empire suffered violence of untold and unprecedented levels.

Mr President, Shonas have not been offered the same opportunities as Whites and Ndebeles to address these matters till this day.

  1. The Shona / Munhumutapa Empire was first invaded by the Portuguese before the Portuguese eventually colonized Mozambique.
  2. After that, our kingdom was invaded and colonized by the South African Ndebeles who established their kingdom on the Shona / Munhumutapa Empire.

The Ndebele kingdom was established on our soil, though it no longer exist, this was the first Gukurahundi on Shonas in the Munhumutapa Empire. History has recorded and documented that indeed it was a genocide on Shonas.

We are still waiting for a similar an apology and compensation for this black on black colonization.

  1. The third invasion and colonization was by the British. Again, history has it that it was slavery, genocide and theft of our resources.

Mr President, besides making frantic efforts to seek recommendations to resolve the Ndebele Gukurahundi and also compensate the Whites, your government, like the previous Mugabe government, has ignored the need and importance to address the Shona Genocides suffered at the hands of both the Ndebeles and the British.

Mr President, Shonas have not been compensated by both the Ndebeles and the British, it is therefore our wish that your government find time to address these concerns with the same urgency, zeal and enthusiasm as demonstrated above.

T.A.D will redraft the same letter and sign to make it official that Shonas hereby seek audience with your office on this matter.

We also seek permission to directly address the Zimbabwean Parliament, National Council of Chiefs and Civic Society, in the same manner, to seek recommendations on how to table the Shona Colonial Bill, the return of the stolen land (Matebeleland) and compensation.
