The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has called on government to implement different remote learning strategies in all districts , to sustain provision of education during the COVID19 pandemic.

The union suggests that districts implement their own suitable plan inline with the available resources, while its even possible for remote in communities which are not connected to the internet.

This comes at a time were schools in the country are closed for the second term due to COVID19.

Proposing their recommendations during an online meeting with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, ARTUZ said that theres centralisation of education management which need to be dealt with and let each district implement their own suitable strategy for remote learning.

“The crisis in our education sector emanates from centralisation of education management.”

” For context based remote learning to work, communities should be given latitude to study their context, develop a contextual remote learning strategy and implement it,” ARTUZ said.

The teachers union added that , “ ARTUZ proposes that each district be given a mandate to produce a remote learning strategy which suits available resources.”

“A district will have to produce a strategy which can be implemented with available resources. “

“The District Schools Inspectors should have planning meetings with school heads and produce working strategies for remote learning for schools in their districts.”

Schools are currently closed in the country and government is in preparation for reopening , while students are reportedly lagging behind.

ARTUZ said that , “It should be noted that learners have lost learning time because we have failed to innovate in the face of COVID19.”
