Government yesterday classified Harare as a COVID-19 hotspot following a record of over two thousand COVID19 cases.
Zimbabwe has witnessed a surge in COVID -19 cases over the past weeks , prompting the authorities to impose a lockdown.
In a post cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senatorn Monica Mutsvangwa said Harare had the highest number of recorded cases.
“Areas which recorded the most significant numbers of new cases were Harare Metropolitan Province (2 920), Mashonaland East Province (1 968), Mashonaland West Province (1 776), Manicaland Province (1 537) and Mashonaland Central Province (1 106).”
In June last month other provinces were classified as hotspots following a surge in the number of cases. Masvingo and Chiredzi in Masvingo Province, Nkulumane, Emakhandeni and all the northern suburbs in the second largest city Bulawayo were classified as COVID-19 hotspots.
As of Monday Zimbabwe has recorded 99 944 cases , with 67 827 recoveries and 3 173 deaths.
The recovery rate stands at 67%, with 98% of cases being attributed to local transmission.
Meanwhile government announced that the imposed Level 4 lockdown measures remains in force.
