The government has set a deadline for civil servants to get vaccinated, failure will risk one not receiving compensation payouts.
Following the launch of the vaccination program in February this year government listed frontline workers as priority groups however, the turn is reported to have been low.
Speaking at a post-cabinet press briefing on Tuesday, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said those who are not vaccinated will not get compensation.
“Noting that the frontline staff was given the opportunity to vaccinate ahead of others, the nation is advised that a considerable number of frontline workers (20 percent) have still not presented themselves for vaccination.”
“Given the risk, this poses not only to other workers but also to patients, Cabinet has set 14 July 2021 as the deadline for the vaccination of the frontline workers,” she said.
Mutsvangwa added that after this date those who would not have been vaccinated will not receive Covid-19 insurance payouts.
Recently, President Mnangagwa declared that “no-one will escape” being vaccinated for Covid-19, with Zimbabwe expecting 2.5 million vaccine doses from China in the next few days.
The government is pushing to inoculate at least 60 percent of the country’s population by year’s end.
Meanwhile, the country has been facing a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, with government assuring expectance of more vaccines.
