Parirenyatwa now only admitting emergency cases

Parirenyatwa General Hospital is now only admitting emergency cases in order to make create room for COVID19 patients, as cases increase, with effect from 28 June 2021.

The country has recently been experiencing a surge in the number of Covid19 cases, amid a reported third wave hitting the country.

Clinical-Director DR. T. M. Magure wrote to senior doctors alerting them of an increase in the admit ion of Covid patients.

The letter reads, “ With effect from Monday 28 June, There will be no elective lists, only Daily Emergency Lists and trauma lists will be scheduled to operate all patients in the wards in preparation for discharge, Only emergency cases will be admitted into the wards.”

He added that the hospital has seen an increase in the number Of Covid positive patients being admitted.

As at 24 June 2021, Zimbabwe had 44 306 confirmed cases, including 37 524 recoveries and 1 709 deaths. To date, a total of 725 582 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Health facilities in the country have been dilapidating , with hospitals lacking medicines and equipment’s to operate well.
