MDC Alliance president Advocate Nelson Chamisa has called for the compensation of two party members who were wrongfully jailed for eighty years.
Speaking during a visit of the two, Last Maengahama and Tungamirai Madzokere in Glenview, Chamisa said in a normal country with a well functioning government, the two should be compensated.
“If we were in a better country with a better government, the two who were wrongfully jailed should be compensated,” said Adv Chamisa
He further added that the scenario is similar with the Gukurahundi in Matebeleland where government should also compensate the blood that was spilled.
“The medicine for a crime is to appease. The issue is not only on Maengahama and Madzokere but also on the tears and blood spilled in Matebeleland will not end if not compensated. Those responsible should apologise, show mercy and compensate,” he added
In his address, MDC Alliance president further said a country will not develop if its own people are complaining because of what someone has done
“The country will not develop its economy as long as people are complaining about your wrong doings, compensate them and move forward.”
Last week, the Zimbabwe’s Supreme Court has acquitted two members of the MDC Alliance party after they were wrongly convicted of murdering a policeman 10 years ago.
The MDC Alliance has always maintained that its members were innocent and said they were political prisoners.
