Police nab Marijuana smuggling duo

Police in Mutare intercepted a car which was carrying a contraband of marijuana weighing 1 080kgs near Christmas. The ZRP posted on Twitter, confirming the incident, adding that two suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

The narcotics were found stashed in 24 sacks weighing 50kgs with an estimated street value of $48 million.
The suspects were Harare bound when they approached a road block in Mutare


.Upon arrival at the check point, the driver was signalled to stop but failed to comply and sped off prompting a high speed chase with the police.


The suspects later abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot but were later apprehended near Christmas pass. The police recovered the contraband inside the Toyota Granvia which was being used by the suspects.


Smuggling of contraband into Zimbabwe has been on the rise and the police have increased surveillance on the country’s roads as the force intensifies operations to curb drug trafficking,and smuggling.


The duo is expected to be charged with contravening of the Dangerous Drugs Act
