MDC Alliance members who visited incarcerated political activist Makomborero Haruzivishe in prison were denied entry of visit.
Makomborero is being held at Central Prison following his sentence of 14 months in jail after being convicted for inciting public violence and resisting arrest.
He appealed for bail and the High Court judge, Justice Webster Chinamhora reserved judgment.
In a statement yesterday, the MDC Alliance condemned the act while stating that all prisoners have rights.
“We went to Central prison to see leader Makomborero Haruzivishe but we were denied entry to see him.”
“ Which is a right that every prisoner has but the Mnangagwa government are further persecuting Mako while in prison.”
The 28-year-old, an outspoken critic of Zimbabwe’s government, was jailed for 24 months on the first count of incitement, and 12 months for resisting arrest. Ten of the 24 months and six of the 12 months were suspended. With the two sentences to run concurrently, Haruzivishe will serve 14 months in prison.
