Form five classes for the year will commence on Monday next week according to a circular from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, addressed to school authorities.

Meanwhile students are expected to pay fees proportional to the remainder of the First Term school days with schools closing on June 4.

In a circular, the Perm Sec said, “ The 2021 Form Five classes will commence on Monday, the 10th of May 2021, for all schools across the country.”

“Fees will be paid on a pro-rata basis using the following formula: Number of days remaining multiplied by approved fees for Term One divided by a total number of days in Term One.”

She added that all addresses are to ensure that Form Five classes commence on the given date and that the World Health Organization guidelines on the management of Covid-19 are adhered to.

Schools were disrupted by the COVID19 pandemic which resulted in closure and various students conducting their lessons online whilst home.

In the year 2021 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) 2020 O-Level pass rate dropped by 6.8%.

Teachers’ unions stated that the effect of COVID19 on the pass rate could not be ignored while also alluding to other factors like teacher’s incapacitation.
