High Court judge, Justice Webster Chinamhora on Monday reserved judgment on the bail appeal by incarcerated MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe to 14 June when he is expected to be advised of the trial date.
Haruzivishe was sentenced to 14 months in jail on allegations of inciting public violence and resisting arrest.
He appealed to the High Court against his conviction stating the sentence was egregiously inappropriate and the court should instead fine him.
However, the high court reserved his bail ruling.
The development was confirmed by Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights (ZLHR).
“We are continuing with efforts to have Makomborero Haruzivishe released from prison.Justice Chinamhora reserved judgment on an application for bail pending appeal filed by our lawyers Kossam Ncube and Obey Shava,” ZLHR said.
Haruzivishe wants the sentence imposed set aside and replaced with a sentence of paying a fine of RTGS$50 000 in respect of each count, failing which he will be imprisoned for a period of 3 months for each count.
