End ZUPCO Monopoly , Bring Back Kombis : Chamisa

0

MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa says government should lift the ban on kombis and bring an end to the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) monopoly which has since failed to capacitate the transport fraternity.

Chamisa stated that the failing Zupco buses have seen citizens stranded while closing employment avenues on other youths who relied on kombis for jobs.

Recently Social media platforms have been blasting Zupco stating that government should admit that its mass public transporter is failing to cope with demand.

Posting on Microblogging site Twitter Chamisa said ,”The illegal ZUPCO monopoly has left many jobless and brought suffering leaving many stranded or in overcrowded rickety buses and resorting to insecure open trucks.”
“ ZUPCO is potentially a COVID-19 super spreader but ‘Chefs’ don’t care. #BringbackKombis, “ he said.

His concerns come after Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo said ZUPCO affiliated commuter omnibuses are the only ones allowed to operate, that is the policy in place and it has not changed.

Government banned privately-owned commuter omnibuses last year after the country declared a nationwide lockdown in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile , the country has been hit hard by transport challenges which has seen citizens stranded at road sides while opting for private cars and open trucks taking advantage of the situation.
