Government has approved the request for the suspension of ZIMSEC June exams as candidates were not fully prepared due to the induced lockdown that has affected schooling activities since last year.
Speaking during a cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said candidates who wanted to sit for June will however sit together with the November candidates.
“Logistics will be put in place to ensure candidates who wanted to sit for their examinations in June 2021 do so together with other students in November 2021”, said the Minister
She further added that the suspension will allow all candidates to fully prepare for the November 2021 exams as they have been disturbed by the closure of schools due to the novel coronavirus.
“This suspension will allow for timely focus on the November 2021 examination preparations,” she added
Addressing journalists after cabinet, Minister Mutsvangwa said the suspension comes after the Cabinet was advised that Covid has negatively affected the cycle of public examinations with the evidence of 2020 final examination for all levels having started in December 2020 instead of October and November as usual
“Cabinet was advised that the Covid-19 pandemic that broke out in 2020 had negatively impacted on the timing and cycle of public examinations, with the 2020 Grade 7, O’ Level and A’ Level examinations having commenced in early December 2020 and ended in early February 2021, instead of the usual period stretching from October to November of each year,”
