Government is targeting border posts as hotspots for COVID19 Vaccination.The countriy’s border posts , areas like Beitbridge and Chirundu have been earmarked for Covid-19 vaccination as it aims to inoculate at least 10 million citizens.
The country on Monday received part of the donated 75 000 doses of Covaxin vaccine from India, which complemented the Chinese-sourced Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines already in use.
Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutswangwa said ,” that as at 25 March 2021, a total of 11 915 people had been vaccinated, against a target of 25 000, a number which has since increased.”
“ Focus is now on hotspots which include the country’s major points of entry and exit, that is, Beitbridge, Plumtree, Chirundu, Kariba, Forbes and, Nyamapanda.”
“ Also included will be Mutare and the two metropolitan cities of Harare and Bulawayo.”
With regard to vaccination in the country the first phase on February 18 was implemented targeting frontline health workers, journalists, prison officers as well as ports and immigration officials.
As of 28 March 2021 according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care 69, 751 citizens have had their first jab.
