Zimbabwe is expected to receive a donation of 75 000 Covid 19 vaccine jabs from India, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has revealed.
Posting on his twitter handle without revealing the name of the VACCINE from India, Mnangagwa said:
“We are grateful to our Indian friends for committing to donate 75,000 COVID vaccines & for the opportunity to buy more moving forward. We are working tirelessly to obtain sufficient vaccines so we can overcome this virus & revive our economy.”
The donation gesture comes after Zimbabwe Monday morning received her first batch of COVID-19 vaccine from the Republic of China.
China donated 200 000 Sinopharm Vaccine to Zimbawe.
The alleged 75 000 doses will come as an addition to China’s donation.
India was recently caught in a controversy after South Africa purchased AstraZeneca vaccine from the South Asian country.
The Vaccine was later on deemed ineffective against the dominant variant of COVID-19, which was detected in the Eastern Cape and has since been found in more than 30 other countries.
The South Africa’s Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said that the AstraZeneca jabs would be donated to the African Union (AU).
And it is not clear which Vaccine India is donating to Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe on Thursday kick started the vaccination programme with Health and Child Care Minster who’s also the country’s Vice President Constantine Chiwenga being the first to be inoculated.
