Coronavirus: WHO embarks on a fault finding mission in CHINA

World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that it selected a team of international scientists who will travel to Wuhan, China, to investigate the origin of Covid 19 which claims thousands of lives globally.

WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said 10 international scientists are expected to commence the investigations next month which might last four to five weeks.

Among the selected is the Germany’s Robert Koch Institute biologists, Fabian Leendertz, who told the Associated Press news agency that the WHO is not there to put a blame on the nation but rather to prevent future outbreaks.

“It’s really not about finding a guilty country, it’s about trying to understand what happened and then see if, based on those data, we can try to reduce the risk in the future.”

Different theories have been put in place by scientists concerning the origin of this virus and among these theories is a thought to have come from a market in the city selling animals.

But the search for the source has led to tensions, notably with the US causing the administration of the outgoing President Donald Trump to finger China for creating the virus that has killed thousands of people.

In December last year when Covid 19 started, a Chinese doctor at Wuhan Central Hospital, Li Wenliang tried to warn fellow health workers about a possible outbreak of a new disease but however he was stopped from making false comments without vivid evidence.

This doctor later died in February after contracting the virus while treating patients in the city.
