The Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe (RPAZ) has announced the clearance of imported car from countries affected by nuclear like Japan to ensure they are not contaminated by the radiation that hits the country in 2011.
In a statement, RPAZ said the move is to ensure that all affected by radiation from the 2011 accident at the Fukushima Nuclear Plant vehicles are decontaminated at the border posts before it enters the country.
RPAZ has however set inspection and decontamination fee with light vehicles and mini buses going for US$10 contamination inspection fee and US$50 decontamination fee while.
Heavy haulages trucks, trailers and buses are to being charged US$20 for contamination inspection and US$100 for de-contamination.
The RPAZ statement reads:
Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe wishes to inform you that it is now a requirement in terms of Statutory Instrument 281 of 2020 titled Radiation Protection (Safety and Security Sources) (Amendment) Regulations, 2020 (No. 5), that all vehicles being imported into Zimbabwe from countries that experienced Nuclear Incidents (Japan) being inspected for radiation contamination with immediate effect
