Mayor Jacob Mafume finally granted $30 000 bail

Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has been granted ZWL$30 000 bail by the High Court, with the Judge finding that the Magistrate court grossly misdirected itself.

On 30 November he was denied bail by Harare magistrate Ngoni Nduna who ruled that he could use his position to intimidate witnesses and conceal evidence.

Posting on twitter, his party, MDC Alliance said , “ Mayor Jacob Mafume was granted bail Court finds that the lower court grossly misdirected itself and the appeal be allowed .

” Bail granted in the sum of RTGS 30000 coupled with other conditions. We continue to call for an end to persecution by prosecution!”

Mafume was arrested on allegations of advancing favours to his sister and a colleague by causing city council officials to give them two residential stands while they were not on the city’s waiting list.

According to the state, between March 1 and 3, 2020, Mafume approached Admore Nhekairo, city housing director, asking allocation of a stand to his sister Rotina Mafume and Rutendo Muguti, his colleague.
