Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) electronic cargo clearing system is delaying trucks at Chirundu Border Post while the whole process is taking long and passing through various stages.
Truck drives are reportedly spending many days at the border while waiting for clearance after sending their cargo manifest to ZIMRA for approval.
As a result trucks have been pilling up at the border.
The electronic cargo manifest system was introduced by ZIMRA to fast track clearing of cargo traffic at borders , however the clearance has been delaying.
A truck driver using the Chirundu Border Post who spoke to the publication said that the clearance system now undergo different stages before the final clearance while causing delays.
“ ZIMRAS new system Electronic manifest is delaying us at the boder I could have been in SouthAfrica Johannesburg by now.”
“The whole procedure is now different from the previous process were we would go to our agent who would do our manifest , cleared us and we pass.”
“The process is now being done by ZIMRA while it involves my office in South Africa before they approve the manifest , forms are submitted to SouthAfrica , our offices then fill in and sign the forms after meeting ZImras requirements , send it back to ZIMRA it approves the document which is then sent to our offices which will send it to our agents , he said.
He added that without ZIMRA’s approval we can not be cleared
The truck driver said the only thing delaying his proceedings is the clearance system.
“Im here waiting for approval thats the reason why we have so any trucks at Chirundu boder, and I’m not even happy its time consuming, “ he said.
Efforts to get a comment from ZIMRA authorities were un fruitful as they were not in a good position to respond.
