Several teachers across the country are reported to be scared of contracting COVID19 while reporting for duty.
Raymond Majongwe, the secretary-general of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) revealed that teachers were never tested and schools lack Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
Posting on Microblogging site on Thursday he said , “ Several teachers are terribly scared of contracting Covid19 from their work stations.”
“Truth is no one got tested, there are no PPEs, no social distancing, no water. Those with underlying health issues are just gravely worried. “
This comes after several schools have reported COVID19 cases.
John Tallach Secondary in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North reported the first cases of COVID19.
Covid-19 cases have also been reported at Chinhoyi High School in Mashonaland West and Emakhandeni Primary School and Maranatha Adventist High School in Bulawayo.
Meanwhile, Parliament has recommended that the government immediately shuts down schools, blaming the rising COVID-19 cases on its failure to adequately prepare for the reopening.
