Harare mayor His Worship Jacob Mafume who was picked up by Rhodesville police on allegations of abuse of office has failed to appear today before the courts as police officers stated that they needed more time to prepare their papers.
This means that the mayor will spend another night in police custody as the investigating officers take their time to file the papers.
Speaking with his lawyer today, Mr Bhatasara confirmed that his client was not going to make it to the courts today pending the paperwork from the arresting details.
The initial charges he was picked up on were criminal abuse of office arising from the allocation of stands in Westlea in March 2020.
“The modes Operandi used here was arrest first to investigate and an obvious political attack against the office of the mayor to embarrass him where he must have been respectfully summoned to appear and respond to the allegations, “said an analyst.
Most MDC Alliance councillors have been arrested on the same allegations, with similar charges still before the courts.
Mafume is reportedly targeted for trouncing Mwonzora camp in the last council elections which saw him elected to the office of the mayor after controversially dismissing Herbert Gomba, the former Harare mayor
