Investigative Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has been granted bail at the High Court by Justice Chitapi.

Chin’ono has been released after spending 17 days in detention.

Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa Thursday denied him bail, on the basis that he “has a propensity to commit offences”.

His bail conditions are similar to the previous ones he was conditioned after spending close to 45 days at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

Prior to his second arrest Chi’nono was out on ZWL$10 000 bail , was ordered not to post messages on social media and report to the police two time a week.

Briefing the media outside the High Court following his securing of bail Lawyer Doug Coltart said , “ the result is that bail has been granted  basically on the same conditions as the previous charge no new conditions have been added.”

Chin’ono was arrested last week on allegations of defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

He  is being accused of breaching his bail conditions by tweeting about the court outcome of a gold smuggling scandal despite a ban on him posting on Twitter as part of his bail conditions.
