Chi’nono’s bail ruling to be handed down on Friday, judgement reserved

High Court Judge justice Tawanda Chitapi will deliver detained Journalist Hopewell Chi’nono ruling on Friday the 24th of November.

He appeared today before the High Court in appeal for bail.

Chi’nono was arrested for the second time , facing charges of defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

He is being accused of breaching his bail conditions by tweeting about the court outcome of a gold smuggling scandal despite a ban on him posting on Twitter.

Posting on microblogging site Twitter Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said, “In Harare, freelance journalist Hopwell will remain in prison & will know the outcome of his bail appeal on Friday after Justice Tawanda Chitapi heard arguments from his lawyers and those representing the State and reserved judgment.

Recently Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa Thursday denied him bail, on the basis that he “has a propensity to commit offences”.
