The Zimbabwe legal authorities have summoned Harare West Member of Parliament Joana Mamombe over new charges, it has emerged.
Mamombe is currently on remand on bail awaiting trial over her involvement in a flash demonstration against hunger during the national lockdown early this year in Warren Park.
She was accused of violating national lockdown regulations as defined in section 37 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform ) Act and for contravening section 5(3) (a) as read with section 5 (1) of Statutory Instrument 99 of 2020 of Public Health.
She is also facing another charge of ‘faking’ abduction together with MDC Alliance Youth members Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova.
In an interesting revelation, the opposition lawmaker has been summoned over another new charge.
Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights said,”Zimbabwea Authorities have summoned Harare West constituency legislator Hon.Joanah Mamombe to stand trial on 24 November 2020 on charges of unnecessary movement in April…”
“Authorities claim that the Harare West Constituency legislator unlawfully and without sufficient cause made unnecessary movement during the national lockdown by leading an entourage of more than 10 people and proceeded to Mukushi Compound in Tynwald North and Chichera Farm in Marlborough suburb.”
Meanwhile, her trial for previous charges has taken longer than expected after doctors ruled that she was psychologically unfit to stand before the court of law.
