Detained Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president Henrietta Rushwaya has been laid off charges of have been opening secret nostro accounts that were used by miners to deposit fees.
ZMF special committee conducted an investigation which showed out that the former ZIFA boss did not open any Nostro accounts without the knowledge of other members.
Rushwaya is facing allegations of smuggling, bribery and possession of gold without a licence following her arrest last week at Robert Mugabe International Airport.
ZMF chairperson Makumba Nyenje on Tuesday said that investigations carried out established they were hidden accounts.
“Actually, they are not secret accounts, they are accounts which they opened on behalf of the organisation.”
“We discovered that they were waiting for other signatories to bring their documents.”
“It is above board and no money has been deposited into the accounts, “ he said.
Rushwaya is currently appearing before the courts with her other accomplices on allegations of gold smuggling following her arrest last week Monday while trying to smuggle 6kgs of gold to Dubai.
Meanwhile ,she is claiming that she picked up the wrong bag with four gold bars instead of a similar bag with her clothes when she went to the airport.
