Over fifteen houses burnt to ashes in a charcoal iron mishap

0

More than fifteen houses were burnt to ashes in Buhera after a man recklessly discarded a heap of burning coals from his charcoal iron.

The incident occurred in Chief Chitsunge over three weeks ago.

It is alleged that the man (name not supplied), after he finished his ironing, thoughtlessly emptied the used ashes from his charcoal iron over dry grasses before it turned into a catastrophe.

With the help of dry grasses, the fire spread over five kilometres burning more than fifteen thatched houses and properties inside.

In an interview with TechMag TV, one affected woman identified as Mrs Gunguwo said:

“I am at a loss of words right now. I have lost all my property through that fire because I wasn’t there to save at least few,” the visibly emotional lady said.

Gunguwo said her neighbours could have done a ‘Good Samaritan’ job had they rescued her property in her absence.

“Yes I am truly hurt but my neighbors could have done better by rescuing those whose properties were affected in their absence. I just want to plead with villagers all over the country to assist others in times like these. I also plead with the government or responsible authorities to educate people on how to control veld fires,” Gunguwo added.
