Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister SB Moyo has said that the country does not need British Parliament Constant supervision and snooping on matters happening in the independent country.
This follows British discussion on the smuggling gold scandal by Zimbabwe Miners Federation boss Henrietta Rushwaya on Monday.
His remarks come as a response to the video circulating on social media which was taken during a British Parliament session that spoke about corruption and Zimbabwe’s captured judiciary.
The British Parliament House of Lords Wednesday discussed the corruption case of Henrietta Rushwaya, the Zimbabwe Miners Federation President (ZMF) asking what measures could be put in place to the Zimbabwean government into upholding good governance practices.
In a statement on Thursday SB Moyo expressed disappointment saying that the discussion concerning internal affairs is something the country was not expecting which is becoming quite a norm.
“We take note of the debate which took place in the British House of Lords on 27 October and, once again, express our surprise at the level of invasive interest in our internal affairs which persists in the hallowed halls of Westminster Palace.”
“It is more than 40 years ago that the Union Flag was lowered and yet, it seems, our friends in London still regard Zimbabwe as part of their extended family requiring constant supervision, correction and even punishment when, in their own assessment, we stray from the path they and others have chosen for us , he said.”
He added that deliberate attempt to besmirch His Excellency the President, by way of innuendo, with the corruption and smuggling case involving Henrietta Rushwaya, is a new low, even for the noble Lords.
Rushwaya was arrested at the Robert Gabriel International Airport on Monday while intending to smuggle 6kgs gold to Dubai.
This scandal comes when the UK has often denied allegations by Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU PF and SADC that sanctions imposed on the country are responsible for the economic downturn while they say it is corruption that has killed the economy.
