Six More Arrested In Connection with Rushwaya’s gold smuggling

Six more people have been arrested in connection with Henriatta Rushwaya’s gold smuggling case the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed on their Twitter account on Thursday morning.

Former ZIFA boss and current Zimbabwe Miners Federation President Rushwaya was arrested on Tuesday at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Tuesday after scanners at the airport indicated that there was something in her hand luggage.

As a result, searches that were done revealed that the suspect had 6,09kg of gold which had not been legally and properly cleared with Customs and other relevant offices for export.

She is still in custody after it emerged that the smuggling attempt was well-orchestrated by a wide network involving members of the security services, airport officials, and others masquerading as top security agents.

In their Tweet ZRP said,” The ZRP confirms that 6 more suspects have been arrested in connection with the gold smuggling investigation on Henrietta Rushwaya. These are Ali Mohamad, Gift Karanda, Stephen Chenjerai Tserayi, Raphios Mufandauya, Superintendent Shoko and Det. Chief Inspector Chimhungu.”

“The suspects will appear in court soon.”
