Masanga acquitted after spending 22 months in prison

The High court has dismissed a three-year jail sentence for Tonderai Masanga who was convicted for committing public violence during January 2019 anti- government protest.

Masanga was arrested together with 13 others during a price fuel riots in January 2019.

Justices Benjamin Chikowero and Philda Muzofa who heard his appeal on Monday granted him his freedom after spending 22 months in prison

“Judges of Appeal, Justices Benjamin Chikowero and Phildah Muzofa have set aside conviction of Harare resident Tonderai Masanga who had been in jail since 2019 after he was found guilty of committing public violence during January 2019 ant-govt protest,”his lawyer Tinashe Chinopfukutwa said.

Masanga was convicted last year by Mbare Magistrate 36 months in prison
