President Emmerson Mnangagwa has with immediate effect fired Court Judge Justice Bere on allegations of misconduct.
Bere was suspended earlier this year from his duties after he allegedly interfered in a civil case involving the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) and his relatives.
This development was revealed in a press statement addressed by the Chief Secretary to the President Mischeck Sibanda.
“Following the advice of the Judicial Service Commission that the question of removing Honourable Justice Francis Bere JA ought to be investigated, the President, acting in terms of Section 187(3) of the Constitution, appointed, through Proclamation Number 1 of 2020, a Tribunal to inquire into the question of removal from office of the said Judge.”
“The Tribunal has completed its investigations and has recommended that Honourable Justice Francis Bere JA be removed from office for acts of gross misconductHis Excellency the President, accordingly, acting in terms of Section 187(81 of the Constitution, has removed the Honourable Judge from office with immediate effect, “ reads the statement.
His firing comes a few days after Harare High Court Jugde Erica Ndewere was suspended for misconduct and conduct inconsistent with being a judicial officer.
While her suspension coincidentally links to the grant of MDC Alliance Vice Chair bail.
