MDC Alliance secures Gwanda Mayoral Post

MDC Alliance Njabulo Siziba has won the Gwanda mayoral seat to replace Jastone Mzhale who was recalled by the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T, defeating the Khupe backed candidate in the process .

With the council left with nine councillors after the recall of Mayor Jastone Mazhale, the MDC Alliance had five councillors and ZANU PF four.

The election results saw Siziba beat the ZANU PF candidate Albert Ndlovu who lost 5-4.

Commenting on MDC Alliance mayoral elections victory, MDC Alliance secretary General honoural Chalton Hwende wrote on his twitter.

“Congrats to our remaining Cllrs in Gwanda for defeating the ZANU PF backed Mwonzora rebellion team. We secured the Mayorship against all the odds. Thanks to our Provincial Leadership and our National Local Gvt Secretary Hon Zvidzai.”

MDC T led by Khupe has been winning court cases but lossing elections such as Harare Mayoral elections won by advocate Mafume of MDC Alliance.

Khupe and her allies have been failing to turn the recalls to their advantage with the majority of the remaining councillors defying the threats and choosing to back the MDC alliance.

It also happened in Harare after Khupe recalled a number of Councillors including former Mayor, Herbert Gomba and tried to tilt the mayoral reelection race in their favour.

However, Jacob Mafu me of the MDC-Alliance emerged the winner defeating the Khupe backed candidate.
