Teachers stick to downsizing tools over USD salaries demand

Teachers across the country have vowed to continue on a strike stating that they will not accept the 40% salary increment government is offering them

Zimbabwe Teachers Association ()ZIMTA) has urged all teachers to carry on with the strike until they receive better salaries to capacitate them in the harsh economic environment.

Government last week announced a 40% increase for civil servants which , they bluntly refused.

In a letter addressed to the striking teachers ZIMTA said that the union is escalating their stance for better salaries and allowances as they are incapacitated, further refusing the salary increment.

“ We have refused to acknowledge the 40% offer meant to hoodwink us into believing that we have received an increase, nothing is further from reality than this. For your negotiators to get into the meeting tomorrow October 5, 2020, strong, galvanized and with unshaken resolve, they need to know they have you behind in support.”

The association further urged teachers to continue downsizing tools until they are incapacitated.
