President Mnangagwa has appointed Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa as leader of Government business in the Senate.

The announcement of her appointment was made by Senate President Mable Chinomona before the start of business this Wednesday.

She replaces the late national hero and Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri who died in June.

The Leaders of Government Business have a huge voice in the entire legislative process and they help determine the scope and content of the legislative programme for the session as well as the business of the week.

Meanwhile, Senators, have commended government efforts in re-aligning laws with the new constitution adopted in 2013, saying the move will strengthen the country’s justice delivery system.

This Wednesday’s senate sitting saw the Attorney General Office Amendment Bill and the National Prosecuting Authority Bill being unanimously passed after being read by Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi.

During the debate, Senators Honourable Fortune Charumbira and Morgen Komichi commended government for its steadfastness, not only in aligning the country’s laws with the Constitution but also to harness the justice delivery system.

This comes two days after the Senate passed the Constitutional Court Amendment Bill with the three bills now awaiting the President’s signature to become law.
