0

Harare residents through Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights(ZLHR) have filed an application to the High Court and the central government for the opening of closed clinics before 1 October.

Residents argued that the closure of clinics is a violation of the right to health care as provided for in the constitution section 76.

The city of Harare recently scaled down the number of functioning polyclinics due to staff challenges worsened by Covid 19 and down sizing of tools by Nurses.

ZLHR announced the development in a Twitter post on Wednesday, “On behalf of some Harare residents, ZLHR has filed an urgent application at the High Court seeking an order to compel the city of Harare and central government to open all its 42 clinics before 1 October.”

“ Before all clinics are opened on 1 October, the residents also want the High Court to immediately ensure that there are clinics open to offer emergency medical treatment including to pregnant women.”

Residents have been facing challenges for the provision pregnant women being neglected with the closure of primary healthy care facilities in certain suburbs .
