Liberation veterans of Zimbabwe has called on the Central Government to select new competent leadership which will help them avail an enabling environment for  War Veterans to engage in proper income generating projects, mining , farming manufacturing and trophy hunting.

In a statement issued by the liberation veterans of Zimbabwe they aired out their concerns noting that the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veteran’s leadership has been affected by poor management and lack of visionary leaders.

“Veterans are seriously in desperate need of better life as their welfare continues to take toll for the worst.  Contrary to a popular belief that after independence, we would come to home honey and milk however 95 percent of veterans continue to wallow in abject poverty for forty years”.

“Veterans came up with noble idea to register associations that would in turn be used as a vehicle for empowering comrades in addressing their welfare but we later realize the association performed badly and continue to abandon their mandate to provide lasting solutions to the welfare of veterans.

“Leaders have failed to establish an independent headquarter for the association hence we call for electoral reforms which include “ Upon dissolution of the national leadership, there be a mechanism in place to start a process of conducting a congress which will in turn accord the election of new leadership”.

“They should be a reasonable time line from the date of dissolution to the day of conducting a congress and elections in order to allow prospective contenders to sell themselves to the veterans dotted to all corners of the country and beyond the border.

“As a way forward we require men and women of note and substance to take us out of this norm and provide leadership, men and women with integrity, commitment and compassion on the plight of veterans of the liberation struggle”.
